Love is Built is Melocactus' fourth album!
I managed to complete it about a week before the 1-year anniversary of Why Not Live?, which is a record turnaround for me, and the album sees the completion of some songs/ideas that predate The Infinite Emptiness and You!
This album features some new sounds for me, which I was really excited about. I tried to put a particular emphasis on double beater kick drums, sidechained synths and guitars, sampled audio.
Narratively, I wanted the album to primarily explore compassion and romance from different angles than I have previously. It also continues to touch on themes of depression and identity. I found that I was frequently writing with a more direct and personal voice this time around.
For the vocals, Eleanor Forte is once again joined by Mai and Kasane Teto, and this time Natsuki Karin is frequently featured as well.
Screams on track 9 were provided by Aria Winter and Vanity Travesty.
Synthesizer on multiple tracks was recorded by Aria Winter, who also composed and performed the bass riff for transition40/the end of Something We've Never Seen.
transition33/the end of Don't Pretend samples Theme from The Twilight Zone by Marius Constant and Howard Roberts.
transition34/the end of So I get up quotes Take 5, composed by Paul Desmond.
transition37/the end of Where Are You Now samples Blue Frank by Angelo Badalamenti and David Lynch.
transition38/the end of Still Young samples Nothing Lasts Forever, which was written by Tom Schiller and Howard Shore and performed by Mara Beckerman.
transition39/the end of Love is Built includes a sample from LAX by Vulfpeck feat. Joey Dosik.
A complete list of samples is included on the album's Bandcamp page.
